Abortab 200mg tablet (containing Mifepristone) is used in combination with misoprostol to terminate early pregnancy (up to 70 days or 10 weeks) by blocking progesterone, necessary for pregnancy maintenance. Taken orally, it typically causes bleeding/cramping within 24-48 hours. Crucial: Always use under medical supervision due to risks of heavy bleeding/infection. Key Information & Usage: Usage: Used to terminate pregnancy; it stops the growth of the pregnancy. Mechanism: Blocks progesterone, leading to the breakdown of the uterine lining. Administration: Taken orally, usually followed 24-48 hours later by another medicine (misoprostol). Side Effects: Common side effects include heavy bleeding, abdominal pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness. Safety Warning: If you experience extreme heavy bleeding (soaking through two pads per hour for two hours), fever, or severe abdominal pain, contact a doctor immediately. Follow-Up: A doctor must confirm the abortion is complete via ultrasound. Alternatives: If the procedure fails, surgical termination may be necessary to avoid fetal defects.  Important Precautions: Avoid grapefruit juice and St John's Wort. Do not use if you have an IUD (must be removed first). Not recommended if you have chronic adrenal failure or bleeding disorders.
